800kg of fishing nets and marine debris collected in underwater cleanup near Phuket
An underwater cleanup operation near Racha Noi Island, Phuket, yielded 800 kilogrammes of discarded fishing nets and other marine debris. The cleanup was organized by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) in response to reports of marine trash accumulating on an artificial reef. The debris posed a threat to marine wildlife and tourists. The DMCR collected 800kg of trash, including two sea turtle scales, and disposed of it properly. This is part of their commitment to conserving and restoring marine and coastal resources.
