Chiang Mai Governor takes strong measures against PM2.5 pollution
Governor Nirat Pongsitthithavorn is leading efforts to tackle PM2.5 pollution in Chiang Mai caused by burning of agricultural residue. Unauthorised burning is banned, and farmers must obtain approval to burn waste. An app called FireD will monitor the burning process. District chiefs are tasked with exploring alternatives, such as ploughing and burying residue or selling it to energy recycling plants. Municipalities are instructed to eliminate burnable garbage. Incentives are being offered to farmers embracing eco-friendly methods.
