Thailand praised for swift response to Singapore Airlines turbulence
Thailand's rapid and efficient response to a Singapore Airlines flight's severe turbulence over Myanmar on May 21 is praised. Dr Wichanya Burirak led the emergency operation at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The Boeing 777-300ER carrying 229 people made an emergency landing in Bangkok. One passenger died, and many suffered severe injuries. Passengers from 16 countries were on board. As of Sunday evening, 40 passengers and one crew member are still receiving treatment at the hospital.
