Thai PM declares special holiday for Songkran celebrations
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin declared April 12 a special government holiday, extending Songkran celebrations to a five-day weekend. The decision aims to provide ample time for preparations and to spotlight second-tier provinces. The elongated holiday period is also expected to alleviate traffic congestion and usher in a smoother Songkran experience. Preparations are underway for the World Songkran Festival, and the Labour Ministry is considering raising the minimum wage for certain professions.
