Bangkok MP Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Violating Lèse Majesté Law
Rukchanok Srinork, a Bangkok MP from the Move Forward Party, has been sentenced to 6 years in prison without suspension for violating the lèse majesté law by retweeting messages in 2020 relating to the monarchy and Covid-19 vaccines. The Thai Criminal Court delivered the verdict and dismissed the MP’s plea for a postponement. Lèse majesté is a criminal offense in Thailand, prohibiting defamation, insult, or threat directed towards any member of the Thai monarchy.
